Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Art has the ability to change my students. For one hour each day my students and I work hand in hand in creating, framing, building, and documenting ourselves as artist. In this learning environment anything is possible.

My students have dreams of their future.

They are engaging, active, and struggling individuals who attend middle school with a desire to learn and also to be inspired. My students travel on bus, car, or walk to attend school. A few of my students ride the bus for over an hour while others live in the area. My students are diverse in origins but also the languages they speak, and the world they have lived in. Some are socially disadvantaged while others have many economic resources. This diversity allows us to work together as a team. My students come to school to learn. They have great curiosity about the world around them. They are open to helping others and strongly believe that they can make a difference in the world becoming a better place.

My Project

My students need glass fusing supplies such as Kiln wash, fusible glass rounds and squares, glass slumping kit and glass fusing assortment, so that they can create glass objects using a kiln. Today Students. Tomorrow Artist. These glass fusing supplies will allow my students to create beautiful products made from glass, just like artisans. Often times students are limited with what they can do in an art classroom because the resources are not there. Because I received a kiln from a teacher who retired two years ago, my students now have an opportunity to try something new. There is great excitement in learning something new. It is a great thing to watch Sixth Grade students be excited! I never know what will inspire my students, so I like to try a little bit of everything.

This project will not only bring great joy into the lives of my students, but it will spark their curiosity, and they will be amazed by the incredible products they can create by glass fusing.

The students will be talking about the glass fusing projects for months, because it is something amazing. I never know where my students will end up, but I want them to know that they can create great things. This is the lesson that this project will teach.
