My students need to read, but in order to do that they need books! They need 15 copies of "Bloodlines."

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I cannot live without books," Thomas Jefferson said, and my book club girls are learning how true that is! Building their love of literature as well as their library, as we read and discuss books once a week at lunch shows the girls why life needs books!!

The school the girls attend is an urban school in California.

The Book Club gals are in grades 6, 7, and 8. They are all reading levels. And they are typical girls! The best part of the books for the girls, is by far, the romance! Adventure and drama they enjoy, but bring a boy or heaven forbid a "love triangle," and they are smiling from ear to ear.

My Project

We meet as a book club once a week at lunch. Giving the girls books to read and build their library is an amazing thing. Books give them a chance to dream and imagine. They also give them a chance to escape their reality for a bit. At the beginning of the year our discussions are very superficial, but they are learning how to dig deeper and find the bigger issues the books are about. True, Bloodlines is a vampire book. Yes, vampires have saturated the YA market, but the issues in this book run a bit deep. It deals with standing up for right even though it may be against everything you believe.

I could give facts and data about what a positive impact books and reading have on a student's education, and it would all be true.

But, if you are a lover of books you already know that! Help change a student's life. Give them a book!
