Going Green with an iPad for Our Pad

My students need an Apple iPad 2 and cover to support our environmental studies.

My Students

Our children will inherit the planet as we leave it for them. An environmentalist has said, “We are living on this planet as if we had another one to go to.” We need to teach students at an early age to become interested in caring for our environment.

I teach First grade in rural Southwest Missouri.

My students are eager and excited to learn about science. I have heard that US students are falling behind students in other countries in the areas of Math and Science. We need to have strong science programs that teach children to ask questions, experiment and think about solutions. I teach in a school where more than 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch due to their economic status. Due to budget cuts our funding for classroom materials has been seriously decreased. We have one student computer in our classroom and most of my students do not have access to a computer at home.

My Project

There are hundreds of educational apps available on an iPad2 that can expand my students' learning. The beauty of an iPad2 is that it can be used anywhere; inside the school and even outside for Science experiments. Imagine looking up information on vegetables to plant in an outdoor classroom and then using a field guide app to identify the birds and butterflies that visit the garden. Imaging using an app that can turn your iPad into a virtual solar panel and calculate how much energy a solar panel could generate from that location. The possibilities for learning are limitless.

An iPad 2 would enrich my students' learning as we study organic gardening, composting, solar energy, habitats and many other science themes.

By donating to this project you are providing a better educational environment for my students. This project can help increase their motivation to develop the basic inquiry skills necessary to reach their full potential as future contributors to our society.
