My students need to learn to bowl.
Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Special Olympics has impacted my students by giving them opportunities to learn sports and participate at their level. I've watched them transform into confident, fit conscious students.
My classroom is a low incidence, special needs, cluster program in a K-8 school in a large urban city that serves over 400,000 students.
My 11 students are included in the general education classes for specials such as art, gym, music, drama, dance, and computer classes. The rest of the day they are with myself and two paraprofessionals. My students are Americans from diverse backgrounds; Latinos, African American, Chinese, Saudi and European. They are excitable, lovable, and love to learn new skills, motivated to have fun, get fit, and gain control over their bodies. We have participated in the Special Olympics Spring games for the past 5 years. Our curriculum includes community based learning which is an adventure for them out of the classroom and into the community to practice social skills and learn ways to have fun being a part of the community. This project includes the primary low incidence classroom of 9 additional students.
My Project
My students will be given the opportunity to learn how to bowl and achieve the three practice scores it takes to enter Special Olympics competition. My students will feel the impact of the benefits of bowling which include; improved balance, coordination and motor skills as well as practicing social skills and having fun. We will be able to go on 5 field trips into the community to bowl at a facility that has all the special needs such as ramp bowling and pop-up gutter guards to ensure that all students have access to the sport.
Your donation to this project will make a difference in my classroom.
We will be able to enhance our Special Olympic program by enabling us to go on trips in our community to learn and practice the sport of bowling. My students will have opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
