From Ancient Times to Today -- Vocabulary Builds Language

My students need these vocabulary books to form a strong foundation and buildings blocks for all learning. Understanding words and their meanings will enhance their education.

My Students

Our students struggle every day with the hardships that face every child, this is compounded by low income and lack of basic skills. Acquiring these books will build their understanding of words, uses, meanings, and create a foundation for future reading and writing...help us start that journey!

Our school is located in north central Arizona providing education for students from middle and lower income families.

The school currently has approximately 360 students enrolled with 30% being minority (Hispanic, African American, and Asian Pacific) and 91% being from economically disadvantaged families and 28% requiring special educational assistance. Finally, over 61% of our students are considered homeless youth which puts them at considerable risk that we work to overcome each and every day in the classroom and through these projects.

My Project

Despite all the hardships that our students face each and every day they all want to learn, succeed, and become productive high school and college students, and one day armed with the skills they acquire today, find their place in society as productive young adults. With the acquisition of this Vocabulary unit of study it will open up their understanding of what words mean, their uses, and the power that they wield when used properly. They will see how words inspired dreams, imaginations, how they built a country, and how choosing the right words can move mountains. They will see how great men and women used words, not violence, to change the world and how they too can change their world as they create their foundation and mastery of the English language. This book starts then on their journey and it will be followed by others as their vocabulary grows!

Imagine trying to read or write a single word, sentence, or paragraph if you do not understand the spelling, meaning, or usage of the words!

Can you imagine what the world work be like if we did not make understanding vocabulary a priority in school. Just think of all the things that we would not have, know or understand if we stopped teaching the meaning of words. Do not let this happen to our children, give our children the foundation to see and express themselves in today's world.
