My students need spray paints and acrylics in order to produce the imagery that represents their mural of balance. They also need scholastic readings and visuals aids.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of my students have not had the opportunity to take a studio art class. For many of them, this will be there first opportunity to work with real artist's materials. In addition, it will be the first time most of them experience art history in an academic setting.
My students are part of a school system in which it is typical to reduce opportunities to explore their potential through art and extracurricular activities.
It is common for my student's families to have no extra money to support these creative endeavors outside of school. Although their school is supportive of fostering creativity and self-expression, there is a financial limit to what can be accomplished. Many of my students have a passion to explore art and become more knowledgeable of its uses throughout history. I have also seen a fire inside of them for reading, both visually and textually. They simply need a platform where they can be exposed to quality curriculum and materials.
My Project
It is my goal this academic year to facilitate an art program in which students have the ability to work hands-on with the same materials they see utilized for expression and communication in their neighborhoods. I plan to supplement this program with an art history based curriculum which will allow for a greater sense of visual literacy for every student. The current project includes creating a school mural that reflects our neighborhood in a positive light while simultaneously allowing students to experiment with art mediums such as spray paint and acrylics. The central theme of our mural is balance and the visual components will include images that both students as well as the community feel represents the message of working together as friends and not enemies.
By donating to this project you will help support nearly 200 students gain exposure to a quality art education.
Many of these students have an interest in learning more about the ways in which art can help shape their futures. Funding this project will aid in facilitating a school wide mural project that will allow students to work collaboratively as a part of an artist community. Our students will be forever proud to share their message of working together as friends not enemies.
