Focus! Helping Students with Autism Attend

My students need 2 computer carrels in order to minimize distractions and maintain attention and focus to learning activities on the computer.

My Students

Trying to focus on your own task is difficult enough, let alone with the peer next to you engaging in a very fun looking computer game. For children with autism, who often find attending to task and maintaining focus challenging, this task becomes nearly impossible.

Our school is a public school that serves a wide variety of students across many domains: special education, socio-economic status, and ethnicity.

My students are elementary grade children on the autism spectrum. They are an enthusiastic bunch who love learning, especially on the computer! They require a special environment and learning materials in order to attend and learn to their full potential.

My Project

The computer carrels will provide my students the supports they require to independently and actively engage in learning activities on the computer. Currently, attending to task is very difficult and the students are not receiving the full benefit and learning specialized computer-based curriculum has to offer. The carrels would provide a secluded, distraction-free zone where they can focus to their task at hand and learn to their highest potential.

Your donation would go to providing an optimal learning environment and independence to children on the autism spectrum.

It would give them a space to practice mastered skills, learn new concepts, and develop 21st century skills. Thank you for seeing our need and supporting this project!
