My students need a Full Body Sensor/Body Composition Monitor with Scale and 7 Fitness Indicators and a Flex-Tester Sit and Reach in order to monitor their fitness levels.
Obesity is becoming America's number one health problem. I want my students to become aware of their health and exercise habits. In Nutrition and Wellness class, we do fitness measurements and tests and having this equipment will help students get accurate assessments of their fitness levels.
My students attend a rural high school and do not have access to a lot of fitness opportunities available in larger cities such as public gyms.
My students are interested in diet and exercise and would like to improve their fitness level. The two pieces of equipment I would like to have available for my students are not the sort of equipment my students would have access to otherwise. By learning their body fat percentages and BMI and how flexible they are, students can personalize what types of exercise and workouts they need to improve their health. I am a runner and would like to encourage my students to begin this lifelong fitness activity, and these types of fitness tests could be the basis of their long-term improvement and living plans.
My Project
My goal is for all of my students to be the very best they can be--mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically. I believe that good physical health is the basis for all these components. Students who are in good physical condition are more alert mentally, better able to learn, more self-confident, and more outgoing. By assessing their fitness levels, my students can see first-hand what improvements they need to make in their fitness routines. Once we have assessed their fitness levels, we can tailor fitness programs to improve their health. This is something that will be educational for students, inspiring for students, and have lifelong benefits for students outside of the classroom.
These two pieces of equipment may seem somewhat frivolous in the current economic condition, but improving a student's physical health and fitness level can have lifelong benefits.
A student who is healthy and who is aware of what is needed to become healthy and has a fitness plan has a head start on anything he or she plans to strive for in life. Please help make a difference not only in a student's health but in his or her life!
