My Students

We live in an area where many of us have yet to explore beyond our own backyards. We spend our days learning about amazing places and things that we can't see in real life. With virtual reality, our hope is to explore space, museums, and walk the streets of big cities by creating a VR portal.

Our school is located in a poverty stricken area of northeastern Kentucky.

Our school has more than 70% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Our students, though, have more excitement and spunk for learning than I have ever witnessed before. They are not afraid to try and try again to achieve their highest potential.

My Project

In the classroom, we hope to allow students to experience and observe things that are beyond a typical movie or visual aid. Using these virtual reality kits, I want students to be able to see the planets revolving around the sun versus seeing a visual aid. I want them to walk the streets of New York to understand a setting in a book. I hope to see them explore times and eras that I cannot make real for them without these VR cardboard kits.

No one understands the excitement you can bring to a child by giving them experiences.

Our students have cell phones but they don't have any idea of how to use their technology to enhance their learning. I want to see my students engage with technology in a way that is advancing their understanding of our world.
