We used these materials for close to 500 students. We had awesome new non-fiction, fiction books all about dinosaurs and Paleontologists. We began digging in the whole month of November! \r\n Our third graders became Paleontologists using hands on materials. I prepped the library with leafy tablecloths and as they entered I welcomed them into our Paleontology dig with hats. Students loved digging for their dinosaurs! I heard terms like use the pick side, or brush off that part and let me see yours. They also realized that being a Paleontologist is much harder, they learned patience and hard work(lol, their hands hurt from it). Once their dinosaur was fully uncovered they went to the identification station. Students had to compare their dinosaur to the fact cards. Next they used their \"field notebook\" to jot down identifying characteristics and facts about their dinosaur. Students were so excited they were sharing with other third grade classrooms about library and the students could not wait till their library time. \r\n Our younger students worked in centers. Matching upper case to lower case alphabet letters dinosaurs, matching numbers and dots, critically thinking by completing puzzles, and creating 3D dinosaurs! Students chose to go to the reading center due to all the cool books about dinosaurs. They are now flying off the shelves to students.\r\n Our fourth grades completed creating their own dinosaur. They planned what characteristics it would have. Drew the dinosaur, then used clay to create the dinosaur. Last had to describe their dinosaur on paper and share with the class.\r\n My next big project in the library will be our \"McKell Derby Day\" Where all students have a chance to participate in a derby activity prior to the race or be in the actual race.","fullyFundedDate":1729112342899,"projectUrl":"project/dinovember-in-the-library/8763385/","projectTitle":"\"Dinovember\" in the Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Boggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3074678_orig.png?crop=461,462,x0,y107&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725896533508","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3074678"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58082","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":424,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":64.0,"schoolId":58082,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McKell Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McKell Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/greenup-county-school-district/mckell-elementary-school/58082"}
