Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in our first grade is similar to what happens in a major corporation. As first grade teachers we often feel as if we are running a country. The movement, learning, decision making, and hard work never stop. It is our goal that these student are on grade level for reading by June.
My students are bright eyed and full of energy.
They are eager to please and motivated to learn. These students come from very poor families, yet some days you would never know. They don't complain or ask for much, except for more to read, more to put together, more to write on. Our resources are very limited and I need your help. Our school is very old and situated in an extremely urban neighborhood. These students come to school with very little back round knowledge. Yet, they have this amazing desire to learn and participate.
My Project
These classroom materials will bring current news to life in our first grade. We have 85 students that would love nothing more that to have their own current events magazine. These magazines will be part of a weekly lesson on current events and then second as a piece of homework. The leveled books will allow children to read on or above their reading levels. These books will also help these first grade students to have an expository reading experience . It is really important to have non-fiction available for our students in order to prepare them for all the real life reading they will do in school.The paper and pencils will allow these students to practice and carry out common core curriculum. We are having a paper shortage and there is not enough paper to copy the phonics program. Phonics is crucial for these children to experience . The English Language Arts games will allow my students to have a hands on reading and phonics experience. Please help us reach our reading goal.
My project will make a difference in the lives of these students because these students matter.
These students have the right to have a rich language experience. We need these materials to inspire great minds to conquer nonfiction and play with words. We need paper to carry our our phonics curriculum and materials to write with and help facilitate us making our reading goal. In a perfect worlds the best of us would be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something less(.Iaccoca)
