My students need these three Djembe drums. I have used dollar store party favors drums and it has made all the difference with the kids paying attention and cheering each other on.

My Students

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." Albert Einstein said this and I apply this every day in our classroom. You cannot expect a student to sit still and stay quiet all day long; i's torture.

I teach 8th grade Math and Science.

My student are low income students that are bussed across town to our school. We don't have much parent support at our school and the teachers are who they spend the day with. I want to open their eyes to experiences or things that they might be able to experience. Most of my students don't want to learn, but I want to change that and get them excited about Math and Science, by teaching it a different way.

My Project

My students need these three Djembe drums.I have used dollar store party favors drums and it has made all the difference with the kids paying attention and cheering each other. It's torture to students to think that they have to sit still, not talk and are expected to be still all day long. If you could give "that child" a drum just so they pay attention and are able to encourage their classmates in a positive way, that will change that student's world. I have used dollar store party drum favors and I immediately saw changes in my students. They were more active in the lesson and happier. A student that continuously stays in trouble now has something to focus all that energy on and can succeed in the classroom. My students have asked for the party favors and they encourage each other and help each other out. I recently visited The nearby JC Academy and saw what the drum did in his classrooms and it was amazing. I want to reduce minor behavior issues and want my students to want to learn. Like Albert Einstein said, everybody is a genius, but you cannot expect a fish to climb a tree.

My overall goal, is to make my students want to be in my class and excited about learning.

I want to be "that" teacher that is exciting and fun, but my students learn and have fun learning. If students need a drum to release energy and encourage other students in a positive way, then why not give them that opportunity, by giving them a drum to beat on? I have seen the difference that it makes and I want that in our classroom.
