My students need 12 rehearsal cubes to use for drama class activities and for play rehearsals.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my students create acting spaces during class and rehearsal. Right now we are either shifting around bulky furniture or doing without in order to maximize learning time. Rehearsal cubes would enable them to create environments with ease and facility.

I teach in an inner-city, title-one school.

A large portion of our student body are English Language Learners. They benefit hugely from our Drama program because it provides them the opportunity to build oral language and vocabulary through active participation. Students learn about dramatic arts constructs and content specific vocabulary, and then utilize what they have learned in drama games, exploratory activities and projects. They then engage in accountable talks during which they construct critical responses to the performances they have just created and witnessed.

My Project

Rehearsal cubes are large wooden blocks that students can sit, stand or lie on; or they can push them together to create a platform, a table, chairs, or a wall. They are used in acting classes and play rehearsals to create improvised acting environments quickly and easily. Right now my students do not have any such materials and therefore have not had the opportunity to create acting spaces during class and rehearsals. These rehearsal cubes would enlarge the scope of the activities that my students engage in by allowing them to interact within an environment of their creation.

Our Drama program impacts our English Language Learner population specifically because it is an immersion activity.

When students are able to create environments that support their creative visions, the immersion deepens. Your support of this project with give our students more opportunities to deepen their experience with, and acquisition of, the English language, thereby directly affecting their ability to succeed in our educational system.
