My students need samples of fossils, rocks and minerals to identify. We need standard supplies such as dry-erase markers for the classroom and we'd like a seismograph!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What is a conglomerate's favorite soda? Coca-Cola Clastic! I have a passion for Geology and that is something I want to share with my students. We do a lot of demos and labs, mineral/rock identification and food labs (we all love eating)! Please help me make this earth science class more exciting!
Our school is a "Title 1"; we have a very limited budget for even the simplest supplies like expo markers and post-its.
We often run out of paper in the school and copiers get jammed more times than I care to count. But I love this school. I love the demographic and I love that my students choose to come to school. This high school was is one of the most diverse schools in the nation, with students from almost every nation and language around the world. As you can imagine, our international nights are nights to remember. We have students leaving poverty in their own home countries, only to find hardship here in the US. Unfortunately, our school cannot always supply the teachers with our own basic needs for a standard classroom. My goal is to teach my students life skills that will help them become successful in life (and go to college!). These supplies will help me inspire scientific curiosity in my students!
My Project
You are probably wondering what I'm going to do with all of these supplies!
First, the office supplies are things that help me stay organized for my students. Every time my students are absent, I clip together all the materials they missed for the day, and leave it in my "Missed Class?" folder.
The cash register paper is for an activity we do with the geologic time line. I have the students measure out and calculate the divisions within Earth's history. Each pair needs at least 4.5 meters of paper!
The different rocks and minerals will be used as part of a "practical" portion of the class where students learn to identify rocks and minerals by distinguishing characteristics.
I want to make this class even MORE hands-on than ever before.
I know learning content through lectures are important, and let's be honest... sometimes that's the most effective means of transferring knowledge. But student exploration is also essential. I want them to be able to pick up a rock and identify all the minerals within it. I want them to pick up a mineral and tell me what the name is. I can do that with these supplies! Please Help!!
