Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you worked really hard on an assignment, did some of your best work, AND it's been recognized by your peers and your teacher? Now is the time to record your product and save it in a digital portfolio for life after high school. Scanning current events will aid in sharing best work in class.

My students are challenged socio-economically.

While some have means, most benefit from the Free Lunch Program, and as a result, resources at our school are limited. Our students compile a "portfolio" throughout the 9 - 12 grades that includes samples of their best work. Often, this work is the only example of their achievement on a particular assignment. The pride and excitement my students show when their work is collected and presented to their parents, younger students, our faculty and other guests is one of the most gratifying parts of job. Being able to record their work product in digital scanning format allows for new opportunities for students to share their work in social media, blogging, and later in college, or in a digital resume. My students will be better positioned to pursue the next chapter in their lives knowing a secure copy of their best work can be saved and shared electronically.

My Project

A high speed digital color scanner will capture all forms of student work. In the digital imaging classroom, we use all forms of media (photographs, articles, essays, etc.) for a variety of projects that are finished using Adobe Premiere, Flash, Acrobat, Photoshop, and Fireworks. Having the ability to scan in color and send documents of all types (current events, magazine articles, student test grades, photos of friends and family, etc) will allow my students to incorporate these images not only in their projects, but also to create a "digital portfolio". These portfolios are currently in "original document" mode and there is only the single hard copy the student retains post- high school. A color scanner will allow me to incorporate so many other things not only in this class, but in other subjects as well. Students will be able to scan their daily work product and share their examples with students who succeed them at school. Colleagues will be able to scan and store documents also.

Instead of students having to rely on cumbersome journals, folders, or portfolios to record their best work they will instead be able to manage their work product electronically which can be shared on the Internet as well as in their electronic files on the server.

Students can see examples of each others work which stimulates creativity. Colleagues may also scan and share their best practices by scanning examples of articles, lesson plans, and other resources with each other on our network.
