My Students

A typical day in my classroom begins with 24 smiling kindergartners eagerly strolling through our doorway and ready to learn. Our "dinosaur-themed" classroom is filled with young learners who are always anxious to learn new things and I love helping them develop a love of learning!

My students are always excited to learn and filled with energy!

They are extremely friendly, polite, and respectful towards adults, as well as their peers. Our school is a "Leader in Me" school which focuses on developing leadership skills within each grade level. My students are always engaged in these practices and it is so wonderful to watch such young students develop into fearless leaders who take responsibility for their learning.

My Project

As a Kindergarten teacher, the foundation of my teaching is the development of a child's reading skills. Not only is reading an important facet of educational success, it can also teach students to be compassionate, to show empathy, to wonder, to dream, and to fall in love with characters from another world. I am asking for an area rug for my students to gather. Every day when I call my students to "The Meeting Area", they must sit down on faded carpet without a designated spot to call their own. A bright and colorful area rug is the missing piece in our classroom. Students will be assigned their own letter or number and will routinely be able to find their spot on the carpet as our daily learning adventures begin.

This area rug will not only provide a burst of color to our classroom, but students will love being able to join me at our new "Carpet Area".

This rug will also serve as a gathering spot for all of our morning meetings, calendar time, as well as many other classroom activities. Not only will this years' students benefit from this rug, but students will be developing their love of reading on top of it for years to come!
