Critically Ill Students Need to Increase Their Literacy

My students need 2 iPod touches so that they may increase their reading literacy.

My Students

My students are critically ill students who suffer from a variety of disease such as cancer, traumatic brain injury, recipients of heart transplants, burn victims, muscular dystrophy, among others. Often these students come to school on stretchers or wheelchairs.

These students go to school in hospital children's rehabilitation center.

During the day these students receive therapy, medical treatment, as well as school. Often these students come from very poor neighborhoods. Because much of the day, they are too ill or receive so much therapy, these students have a limited amount of time in school. Thus as a technology coordinator i am always looking for innovative ways to increase the skills of these K-12 critically ill students.

My Project

As a technology coordinator, I will working with our reading specialist to increase literacy skills. Using the ipod touch, and the recording feature, we will be working on increasing the fluency of our students. With this feature we will be able to document progress with each student. In addition to this I will also be working with our math specialist in increase basic computational skills with my students. Through interactive apps, games and tutorials it is my hope that my students will make real academic progress despite their illnesses

Please help these children learn to succeed in school.

Many of them have gone through extreme medical illnesses. They deserve an education just like normal kids do. Unfortunately my school is undergoing severe financial constraints, at this time.
