My Students

Our old rug has seen more Hokey Pokey’s than any of us can count, and that’s a big number!

These curious and energetic Kindergartners spend a lot of time on the rug.

As the center of classroom activity, most everything you can imagine happens there – from sharing news to tasting new foods, from Read Aloud’s to jumping jacks, from building princess castles to holding wiggly worms, from learning new songs to conducting science experiments. It all happens there on the rug.

My Project

Our old rug – with its faded colors and wrinkled grandeur – has served students very well for many years beyond its intended lifetime. (Some of the five-year-olds who saw this rug new are away at college now.) We are ready for a fresh, new rug with a simple, lively design. This 9' x 12' “Colors of Nature” rug has a HUGE tree design in rich browns and cool, calming greens against a soft, blue sky (see the photo inset). Playful graphic leaves fill the tree, and birds sing in the branches.

This rug will provide my students with a new, clean, comfortable place to take part in the innumerable learning activities that use their minds, their bodies, their voices and their hearts and which fill their Kindergarten day.
