Chromebooks Needed for Hawaii 8th Grade Classroom

My students need 11 Chromebooks in the classroom to access technology based lessons to build their technology literacy skills and learn the social studies content.

This project expired on April 9, 2016.

My Students

I want my students to be able to access technology without any assistance, complete the technology based assignments and learn how to type fluently by the end of the year. My biggest challenge getting them is that not all students have access to computers at home or after school hours.

My students will be learning all about early American history, starting from the discovery of America all the way to Reconstruction, after the Civil War.

In order for them to better understand the content they are learning, I've created lessons using computers and the Internet so that students are just reading from textbooks. I want to create an interactive experience for my students and immerse themselves in the content by creating presentations in their Google Drive and other resources on the internet. My final outcome is for students to have fun learning and teaching their peers about "boring" history content and understand how America set up their government, why people moved here and farther out west as time went on, why we fought each other in the Civil War and what happened to our country after it was all over. I want them to do more than just sit and read and write.

My Project

I am requesting 11 Chromebooks in the classroom to access technology based lessons to build their technology literacy skills and learn the social studies content. Having Chromebooks will help students partner up to create projects about the social studies content to teach to their peers. Students will be creating slideshows, websites, creating their own Jeopardy review game with student-generated questions to help them better understand the content and create scripts to perform about a topic from a unit of their choice. Students will learn to collaborate with their peers and at the same time, build up their technology skills so that they can be ready to succeed in school, college and their careers. Having the Chromebooks will grant them access to their school Google Apps for Education (GAFE) accounts and will be able to work from any classroom or at any device with access to the Internet after school.

In order to become 21st Century Learners and develop their technology skills, my students need access to 21st Century technology to help develop their 4C’s skills: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity.

My 110 students need access to Chromebook laptops so they can become 21st Century Learners and get ready to be successful in their future school, college and career lives.
