This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did molecular bonding ever frustrate you? How can we see how microscopic atoms form connections with one another? The best way to learn about molecular models is to have a hands on experience and create the bonds. We lack the kits to make this happen and need your help!

I have a great group of 9th graders in Northwest Indiana.

We are based in a charter school that is lacking Science resources. My students love inquiry science and projects. They are very enthusiastic learners. Sadly I simply lack the proper materials to teach the students in the most interactive ways possible.

My Project

I am requesting 22 molecular modeling kits so that each of my students can have their own individual kit during classes. The kits include 75 atom centers and 30 bonds so we could create a variety of interesting molecules. The kits come in durable storage boxes so that we can care for these items and use them year after year.

I currently have no materials to teach the basics of Chemistry other than paper and power points.

I personally think molecular bonding is a cool topic and students generally love to see how bonds form. However when everything is on paper or the computer, it becomes lackluster and even hard to understand. These kits would allow my Chemistry unit to become interactive and hands on to help excite students.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
