Books For Babies: Sharing Our Love of Reading

My students need a collection of baby books (6 copies each of 5 titles) to present to classmates who are welcoming new siblings to their families!

My Students

Sharing the love of reading with children is something we all treasure. Reading aloud is a special time that parents and teachers alike share with children. We want our students to experience the joy of reading aloud to someone special too. This project provides resources for this to happen!

Our students love to read!

They are always hungry for new books to devour and enjoy being read aloud to as well. Although many come from impoverished backgrounds (over 80% qualify for free or reduced priced meals), their performance on state assessments demonstrates that they outperform peers from similar schools across the state. We attribute this, in part, to the ready access they have to quality children's literature and the fact that they have daily opportunities to listen to read alouds by their teachers.

My Project

Our donation request is simple! We are asking for book sets for our students to take home to their newborn brothers or sisters. The books we've requested are all focused on the major theme of babies. This project sends a message that newborns are immediately a part of our learning community. Big brothers and sisters will demonstrate their skills by reading books to their new brothers or sisters. Families are given a tangible reminder of the importance that we place on literacy and language development. Bonds are created and strengthened between home and school.

We've given the gift of literacy to our students and now we want to set the stage for them to share their love of reading with a new baby brother or sister.

What better way to welcome the newest members of our school community!
