My 9th grade science students attend an urban school.
Over 50 % qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite all the overwhelming obstacles to finding success, these self starting students are part of a unique program that allows students to graduate high school with an associates degree and a high school diploma.
My Project
Challenge: Who done it? Students will identify the victim's sex, gender and height. They will analyze DNA evidence, complete a toxicology report, compare footprints, hair samples, and blood types left at the scene. Entering the science lab during our BDSI criminal investigation unit you will see students using the equipment you purchase to determine the time of death of the victim. By adding insect photos at various stages to my simulated crime scene and students can use these vivid field guides to find the stage of development to determine the time of decomposition. This equipment will grab student fascination with TV criminal investigation and engage them in biology class. My students need Forensic Insect Identification Cards.
