Baby Badgers Hit Mad-Town!

My students need two affordable meals on a college visit to The University of Wisconsin. Some students may not be able to afford the trip because of meal costs.

My Students

I'll admit, I wasn't a vision of school spirit while attending UW-Madison. I know most of the words to our fight song, begrudgingly attended a football game, learned to polka by the bright shining light of, the light of the moon, and downed at least my (post-freshman year) weight in cheese curds.

As brilliant as the students of the UW homeroom are, few are from families that will take them on college visits.

Some have experienced Wisconsin Dells, while others haven't left Indiana. While many middle schoolers are wrapped up in band or orchestra or the next field trip, my students will tell you frankly of the trials of raising younger siblings, waiting for food stamps that come in the beginning of the month, and falling asleep to the sounds of gunshots and sirens.

My Project

My students deserve the opportunity to visit the campus they are proud to share the name with. While I've convinced the principal to spring for the cost of the bus and enlisted the help of a dedicated friend who works as a UW adviser, the cost of two meals on the trip may pose a challenge for some of my students' families. It would break my heart to see the students of UW miss out on an amazing college visit because of an inability to pay for food on the trip.

This grant humbly asks for funding to feed 30 7th and 8th graders the two meals involved in a college visit to the University of Wisconsin.

One meal is in the dining hall of the Memorial Union, the other is at the world's largest Culver's on the way home. While the food isn't fancy or even memorable, the dreams and hopes that this trip will inspire will be lifelong. Please consider supporting the next generation of Badgers on their first visit to their namesake, The University of Wisconsin.
