My Students

I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income area of Northern California.

We are considered a Title I school as the vast majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We also have a very high percentage of ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

My Project

My class has always revolved around a central theme of conservation and environmental stewardship. Each year, we have multiple discussions about the importance of taking care of our planet as we reflect on the concept of the "seventh generation" (deciding whether the decisions made today will benefit children seven generations into the future). Although these discussions lead us in the right direction, we're missing a crucial element: hands-on interaction. It is a well known fact that we are more apt to learn and understand when we're given the opportunity to experiment and apply our knowledge. Because of this, I am requesting three kits (solar, wind, and hydro power) that will help my students identify and appreciate the renewable sources of energy that will one day power our human world.

We will be able to create and see the effects of the sun, wind, and water that are naturally found in our day to day lives. Thank you so much for your support!
