Autism Classroom Sensory Ball Chairs

My students need 8 multi-sensory chairs that support children on the autism spectrum. These chairs support core body strength that many of them need and sensory input!

My Students

We have tried out one of these "ball chairs" in our classroom and it's the hottest item in our class! It promotes concentration and soothes sensory needs. There is a a great deal of research supporting the increase in focus for students utilizing these chairs.

My students are high functioning and mostly on the autism spectrum.

They range from 4-0 years old. (K-2). There are many co-morbid conditions with these children and most have an ADHD element along with autism. There has been a great deal of research supporting increased focus, when students are able to use these chairs, much less the occupational therapy benefits!

My Project

One of the greatest struggles with young students on the spectrum that are high functioning is focus. A big part of this is the need for sensory input or output. These chairs allow a wiggly child to wiggle appropriately during instruction. We have tested this chair in our classroom and every student has wanted to use it and used it responsibly. We will be able to calm down easier after transitions, sit longer for lessons, and not have to take time from teaching and learning to travel to the sensory room. They will get their input right at their desks. They can take these chairs ingot the general ed. setting and appropriately deal with their sensory needs, while attending.

My occupational therapist brought the test chair into our room and I was skeptical.

But, I've seen it work with children that I couldn't find an answer for, during instruction. All 9 of my students want to use the chair, not for a novelty, but because they need it. Thank you for your consideration.
