Art and Reading: Scholastic Art Magazines For Young Artists

My students need 25 copies of Scholastic Art Magazine so they can read about current events and artists all next year!

My Students

Sometimes the textbook doesn't have it all. Help my students learn from a current and exciting art magazine. The magazine showcases and interviews artists, directors, designers, etc and they can even see what art students are making all over the world. Excellent art reading!

My middle school art students live in a suburb near West Virginia's capital city.

They are bright and diverse and love to create art. Having art class sometimes is like having a break in the day for therapy in a way. They like listening to music while they work. They enjoy watching videos from vimeo.com and other sites about what artists all over the world are creating and posting online. They would love looking and discussing the topics and images in the Scholastic Art Magazine all year.

My Project

The Scholastic Art subscription would be so useful in my class because it is something that I could reuse every year. The magazine has images of other art students and art history. Usually the magazine does a topic/ interview with a current artist. For example, one of the issues this upcoming year will be showcasing the film director Tim Burton, which I know my students would love learning about as part of their curriculum. The magazine is great for class discussion and incorporating literacy into my classroom that is more up to date than the textbooks. I intend to safely store each month's copies to reuse in future classes.

My students would truly benefit from having this wonderful and educational magazine at their grasp.

I want to really build up my curriculum with something exciting they would really love. I usually get a free sample copy a year and I've wanted to get one full class subscription, however, my school has limited funds. Please help my students explore art even further than the limits of our art textbook.
