This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the anxiety on the day of a high stakes examination? My high school students are sitting for the Advanced Placement Statistics exam on May 16th. If they perform well enough, my students could earn college credit for this course. Please help me to encourage them on exam day!

My students are all minority students, most living at or below the poverty line.

However, they don't let these facts stop them from dreaming or from working hard to achieve those dreams. All of my students will be applying to college next year, virtually all will be the first in their family to do so. They are smart; they are hard working; and they deserve a fair chance at the American Dream.

My Project

If my students perform well enough on the this exam, they will earn college credit. This would immensely enhance their likelihood of getting accepted to the college of their dreams and it would save their family tuition dollars - both very real considerations. My students have been working incredibly hard all year - coming for supplemental sessions outside of regular class time on a regular basis. These gift bags will provide that last bit of encouragement on the big test day. I'm seeking a book of motivational messages, a mechanical #2 pencil and quality eraser to be used on the test itself, Gatorade and energy bar to be consumed during the break and a star notepad to remind each student that they are already a star in my book.

These kids deserve a real shot at life - regardless of their zip code.

Our school may be located in Harlem, but these kids have Harvard in their sights. Help me to help them feel confident on test day.
