My students need ipod touches to create a digital learning environment. Our sources of technology are currently limited.

My Students

What gets your children excited at home? In the classroom we see engaged learning when using technology.

We are three teachers collaboratively submitting this project for our grade level.

We will each have 25 eager students in need of being challenged as well as remediated. Our students are very familiar with various forms of technology that they use at home, but the same technology is not offered to them at school. Our students live in a community that appreciates 21st century education and the challenges that teachers face in bringing it into our classrooms. Even when they are provided the opportunity to utilize the computer lab or classroom Promethean board they become very excited and enthusiastic about learning. We have students with various learning needs (ELL,Autism, Learning Disabilities, Gifted students) that require differentiated instruction. This current generation of children is more connected and digitally savvy than any other generation before. Kids love to spend their time using interactive technology because it is fun, engaging, and a powerful way to motivate students.

My Project

Today's child is surrounded by technology from computers, cellular devices, video games, books, and ipods. Within our classrooms, with the use of ipod touches, we will be able to differentiate instruction in all subject areas. With the use of audio books, we can help develop a student's comprehension, build confidence, and strengthen vocabulary. By using interactive apps it would encourage the students to read at a higher level and develop critical thinking skills. Statistics show that the use of the math apps improves student math performance. We would like to use various math and language arts apps to support our curriculum, as well as, using them to challenge and remediate students with various abilities. Educational apps are also offered in the areas of social studies and science that will enrich our curriculum and student learning.

We will be the first teachers in our school to utilize a new and innovative form of technology.

We would like this opportunity to pilot this digital learning environment by using ipod touches as an instructional tool. We believe with the use of the ipod touches the students' academic performance will improve dramatically. We need to continue to focus on providing our students with a wide range of experiences using technology. We truly want to prepare our 113 great children for their future.
