My teaching partner and I have been able to quickly and easily create so many wonderful learning tools to support the Language Arts curriculum for our students. Of course we focus heavily on new vocabulary. For many of our newcomers, this could be as simple as the names of fruits and vegetables, articles of clothing, or characters and items included in Nursery Rhymes. Some of the fun ways we have supported these needs are:\r\n\r\n• sets of paper dolls with clothing and shoes for students to practice use of the vocabulary as they change the doll clothes and talk about the clothing choices with a partner \r\n\r\n• laminated card sets with labeled fruits and vegetables for students to play 'Go Fish'. This encourages practice of the vocabulary as they ask others, 'Do you have a [name of the fruit or vegetable] card?' \r\n\r\n• sequencing activities for several Nursery Rhymes for use with our special education and Autism students. \r\n\r\nFrom a classroom administrative perspective, we've found color-printed records to be helpful in analyzing the data that drives our instruction. Having these documents to share with administration and other educators make collaborative discussion much easier to follow. \r\n\r\nHaving this color printer so accessible has streamlined our planning and given us more time in our planning periods to provide our students with colorful and engaging lessons!
