Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We now have a wonderful leveled library that is sitting in boxes on the floor. What my students need to make our classroom library more accessible is appropriate storage for our leveled library.

I now have 50 bright, energetic, and hungry-to-learn first graders in my two dual-language inclusion classrooms.

We are located in Nevada, where all these children attend a Title I school. The 50 first graders are excited about learning everything they possibly can. For some of these children, school is the only positive in their lives. For others, school is the only place they will be able to touch a book. For some of these children, school is the only place they will get a word of praise or encouragement. All of these children are excited about learning everything they can.

My Project

Books can take you anywhere. This, of course, can only happen if you have access to books. This means as their teacher I need to provide access to books, which I am doing slowly. Unfortunately, we have run into an obstacle--where to store the books and how to store the books so they are easily accessible to my first grade readers. They are difficult to grab onto if they are not easily accessible. If the books are not accessible, my students don't want to use them. The solution to this problem is two storage carts. They both are mobile libraries on wheels. One has six bins, and one has 12 bins which makes a total of 18 bins. The 18 tubs are perfect for separating the leveled book accordingly. These mobile libraries on wheels will make the books easily accessible to my inclusion students who deserve and equal opportunity to use our classroom library.

My students enjoy reading, and they enjoy the places the books can take them in their imaginations.

The two mobile libraries on wheels will give the children opportunity to read books. Not only that, once the books are placed in our new mobile library, the children will then learn how to select a book, which will serve them well as they get older. These children need to know how to use a library and how to take the time to select a book at their level.
