My students need a class set of Dear America books to help me bring the reality of the Civil War to life.

My Students

I know I love to dive into a book and pretend I am in another world. I am hoping to bring that passion to my students. This may be a history class, but I hope by providing an amazing novel to my students, I can bring that passion to them!

Have you ever tried to imagine living during the Civil War period?

It is hard being a 6th grader and learning about different wars. By allowing us to each have a book to look at, you are ensuring that all of us will be able to keep the information separate. My students are an amazing group of students. They are very restless and anxious to learn. We are in a very rural area, which is low income as well. Many students have challenges that they face at home and school becomes a safe haven for them. Even with these challenges they press on, trying to better themselves.

My Project

When Will This Cruel War Be Over? will allow the students to see for themselves the details of how the Civil War really was. Instead of me having to hold one book and try to keep their attention by reading to them, we can take turns and do "popcorn" reading as a group. Each child will have their own book to hold on to. Students will also be able to "check out" a book to take home.

It is important that I am able to bring visuals into my student's lives.

Without bringing in these "extracurricular" items, I am left with the bare bones of what is needed. I love exposing my students to as many new experiences as possible.
