My students need a media projector, network adapter and screen cart for one of our 8th Grade classrooms to ensure that they are engaged with relevant, up to date content and technology.

My Students

Have you ever wondered what is happening on the other side of the world in a classroom in India? Well my students need and want to see where science, global problems are happening in the real world.

My 8th grade students are surrounded by technology such as: social media, music players, cellphones and some also have smart-phones.

It would be great if learning/lessons were available in all classrooms in this way. The students want to learn and be engaged through active practice and collaboration in Math, Science, Language Arts, current events and the Global World using current technology. Studies have shown students learn best when they are active learners rather than passive learners (1993). I want them to be active participants and explore our integrated science curriculum about our Thirsty Planet, Epidemics, Chemistry in our Lives and Our Changing Earth through relevant up-to-date digital media. If our 8th Grade students need to be engaged in understanding and building a connected, just and sustainable world for the future - I need those 21st century tools to do this.

My Project

In math, I want to introduce students to Khan Academy, Learn Zillion and possibly Sketch Pad to ensure students are actively practicing the math concepts they learn on a daily basis. In science, students will be able to experience many on-line labs, demos, and simulations that allow them to be exposed to real live science that is relevant to life today. Students will be able to engage with the world in science explorations and gain a sense of how to ask questions, investigate, and synthesize the results. With the online environment in many universities and research labs around the world, students will continue to be plugged in to the current discoveries and how they relate to our curriculum. I want to prepare students with the global skills and knowledge required to compete in an increasingly interconnected world.

We all want our 8th Grade students to be ready with the 21st century skills needed to succeed in high school and beyond.

Providing them with current, relevant global experiences in sciences & math, using up to date technology will facilitate that transition. We are in need of this technology in our classroom (a mounted projector, a set of speakers, and a network adapter).
