My Students

21st Century Learners, learning in a 20th Century classroom. Please help my students learn in a technology driven classroom.

With budget cuts becoming more and more of a reality in my state, my students are facing less and less in our classrooms.

My students love technology, and unfortunately, we do not have the money to provide them with the technology they crave. My students are 7th Graders in North Carolina. We have a completely diverse population, and range from extremely high ability levels to extremely low ability levels. A lot of them come from single parent families, and therefore, they might not always get the support that they need at home.

My Project

With a class set of iPod touches, I can take my students into the 21st Century with different Applications for Science. They can be used to create and watch a podcast. Watch slideshows to help with diverse learning styles. Students can create text files when doing lab work, as well as read eBooks to help with their research. Students can also watch videos streamed from United Streaming on them to complete an assignment, as well as access the Internet. This would all come in handy when working on big research projects in class. Internet usage would also be helpful when they are working and need clarification on a topic or a definition. There are a vast range of possibilities for the iPod touch in the Science classroom.

My students love technology.

Unfortunately, the amount that we have is limited. My students get so excited when we are going to any activity that deals with technology. I would like to start giving them a better experience in my class. Our two computer labs are always full, and our time in the computer labs are limited to so many days per quarter. The iPod touch would take technology in my classroom to a whole new level and I know that they would learn a lot by using them.
