My Students

Many of our students do not have access to technology at home so we want to expose them to it at school.

I am part of a team of three teachers that work with the 5th and 6th graders at our elementary school.

The school is in a high poverty area in Indiana and qualifies for universal free lunch. We have a large percentage of English Language Learners (ELL) whose parents don't speak English. In spite of this, we have a high percentage of parent involvement.

My Project

The 6th graders are about to go to the middle school and they need experience using the computer for research, projects, and making presentations. Unfortunately, our school doesn't have a computer lab and I've just begun to build my classroom's computer area. Regrettably, our science and social studies textbooks don't cover all the standards. We would love for our students to do research projects and activities to supplement our teaching. With the too few computers that the school does have we can never get enough time on them to complete any project or activity. With the additional Hewlett Packard netbooks and printer, we hope to be able to have the students do projects that will enhance their learning as well as prepare them for middle school as well as future careers. The netbooks can also be used for interventions and stations. Our ELL students could use the netbooks to help with their English proficiency.

We hope that this will be the next step in getting a classroom set of computers for our students to use.

They will be learning the skills to help them make a better life for themselves and their families. Please help lead our students to their future and beyond.
