Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“There is no better tool than a book. It can pry open the locks of poverty and hopelessness and make way for dreams that take hold,” Marian Wright Edelman, the founder and president of The Children’s Defense Fund once said.

Many of my students come from single parent homes that are on public assistance.

This celebration of reading will be an experience of a lifetime for all of them and instill a life-long passion for reading. As first graders, they are "hungry" for and simply love Dr. Seuss books which are not only funny and engaging, but contain words that rhyme.

My Project

Celebrating reading on Dr. Seuss' Day (March 2nd) will enable my students to understand Dr. Seuss’ commitment to promoting literacy by putting a copy of his book in each of their hands. The books, stickers, pencils and bookmarks will serve as incentives to read on Dr. Seuss' birthday and every day! No doubt, this will be an experience that will stay with them forever!

By having my first grade students set aside a day to celebrate reading, you will be instrumental in providing the positive encouragement, enthusiasm, and motivation about reading that will instill a life-long passion for reading and help to build a nation of readers.
