The students in my class are advanced sculpture students who are aspiring artists that strive for a career in the Arts at the higher education level. I teach Pre-AP and AP Sculpture classes at the HS level to students who the majority belong to military families that have a very high deployment/PCS rate. I have students from Freshmen to Seniors mixed into one class period that is well over booked due to its popularity!
Due to the recession our art budget has been cut back drastically and we have even added another art teacher on board thus making it difficult to purchase the needed materials for projects that the kids absolutely love and become so involved with due to dedication and desire to learn a little about everything!
I need kiln firing materials, such as glass (frit, chunks, sheets) and molding materials to make this dream come true for my students and myself. I personally have purchased the glass kiln to use, but am in need of assistance to buy the individual materials for each student.
The students will be able to take this learning experience with them as they move on to a higher education in the Arts. Glass Sculpting is a valid and real career choice for many artists today that is not often explored at the high school level due to the cost of materials.
With your help, my students will be able to design and create unique glass fired sculptures that will complete their sculptural experience at the HS level. Each student will be able to experience a real life career option from the moment they begin to plan their art work to the completed project as well as placing their unique creations within our Annual Art Show.
