Your generosity has provided my students with access to a meaningful, challenging novel that they can engage with both academically and personally.\r\n\r\nEnder's Game is a science fiction and dystopian novel that gives students the opportunity to explore a world that is different from their own while still connecting with characters who are close to their age and facing difficult decisions, expectations, and challenges. Because students can see themselves in the characters, the story creates opportunities for them to think about resilience, identity, leadership, relationships, and the choices people make when faced with challenging circumstances.\r\n\r\nThrough this novel, students will strengthen important reading and critical-thinking skills. They will analyze characterization, theme, conflict, author's choices, and how a story's setting influences its characters. The science fiction and dystopian elements also encourage students to consider alternate realities and compare them to the world they know. Most importantly, students will be challenged to reflect on larger questions about morality, power, responsibility, and what it means to make the right choice—even when the right choice is not always easy.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made it possible for students to experience this novel as a shared classroom text, allowing us to have meaningful discussions, collaborate with one another, and practice using textual evidence to support our ideas. These are skills that extend far beyond one English classroom and will serve students in future academic, professional, and personal settings.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping make engaging, relevant literature accessible to them. Your generosity is helping us build not only stronger readers and writers, but also thoughtful young people who are willing to question, reflect, and consider perspectives beyond their own.","fullyFundedDate":1782417985572,"projectUrl":"project/mission-expand-young-minds-through-lite/10296407/","projectTitle":"Mission: Expand Young Minds Through Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Madison Bridges","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9210616_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1779128085060","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-bridges24"},{"teacherId":10041021,"projectId":9371376,"letterContent":"I appreciate your help to provide my Honor classes with a book they can get invested in. They have enjoyed it so much that I have a few reading ahead of the expectation. We have class discussions on the characters and the future world they are living on. Students will come to ask questions on what they are curious on and even to make funny remarks on sections that are hilarious. I have days in which they silent read, others in which students volunteer to read out loud.\r\nStudents did discussion questions in which they are being presented with allusion, symbolism, external and internal conflicts, direct and indirect characteristics and skills they get to reinforce. They also got to show their understanding on specific chapters and important details on a quiz. The quiz also contained a question in which they would write negative and positive consequences on using VR so far, mentioned by the main character. They will eventually, at the end of the unit, write an essay on whether VR is beneficial or negative for our society. They will use the novel and articles I have provided about both stances. \r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough because you made possible being able to see sophomores getting engaged and enjoying reading. It is not an easy task to motivate teenagers into reading without complaining and this time it has been successful. I have students that already had the book or had read it on their free will. I even have students from my regular classes that asked if they could do what my Honors are doing just because they loved the book. The outcome has been amazing and it is all because of your help.","fullyFundedDate":1747961166105,"projectUrl":"project/dystopian-society-to-reality/9371376/","projectTitle":"Dystopian Society to Reality","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10041021"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9739","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2175,"numTeachers":141,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":1,"percentMultiracialImputed":10,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":62.0,"schoolId":9739,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harker Heights High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harker Heights High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/killeen-independent-school-district/harker-heights-high-school/9739"}
