This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Just picking up a book and handing it to a struggling reader doesn't always work! More is needed, and hands-on means more than putting your hands on a book.

My Reading Success students are ready and eager to be readers and writers, but struggle with both.

I teach at the school in our district with the highest poverty level, but the students here have the best attitudes about learning and love coming to school. Most of these children haven't been read to at home and lack basic skills such as letter sounds, sight words, and how to comprehend a simple story. The parents/guardians of my students want them to be successful, but lack the tools, experience, and money to help them. The students I serve are the lowest performing students in their classrooms. It is my responsibility to teach them in different ways to bring their reading and writing skills up to the average level of their peers before it is too late!

My Project

I am in need of Reading and Writing Instant Learning Centers to use with my small groups of struggling readers/writers. Set 1 can be used with my first grade students who perform on Kindergarten level and eventually move into 1st grade skills. Set 2 would be used with my 2nd grade students who perform on 1st grade and often times Kindergarten level. These instant learning centers are something I can quickly grab and use when I realize the students aren't retaining a skill or used during Friday "game time". Children do not realize they are learning when they are engaged in a hands-on activity because they are having fun and enjoying reading and writing. And...everyone likes games!

Hands-on Reading and Writing Centers/Activities will help sharpen and master students' basic reading and writing skills.

They need small groups, partner, and individual practice and these instant learning centers are the perfect way to help them!
