Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 8th grade students learn all about physics, chemistry and astronomy. They do hands-on activities in physics and astronomy, labs in chemistry, and build bridges and roller coasters. My goal is not only to teach them science but to also excite them about science!

My 8th grade young scientists learn and understand the concepts of science better when they get to see, feel, and experience science with hands-on activities, observing chemical reactions, and investigating how things work.

Some of the students I teach are resource students, some are limited in English, and others are gifted. I provide differentiated instruction with hands-on activities and visuals. Donors Choose gives my students the opportunity to act and feel like real scientists, preparing for high school and the rest of their life.

My Project

Our current DVD/VCR player does not rewind VHS tapes and I have to do it by hand which takes a very long time. The stopwatches we have right now are not enough for the whole class and many of them are broken. The students need them to time their cars when are studying speed and velocity. The display boards are necessary for their science fair projects because many students cannot afford to buy them themselves. We are looking forward to these materials and we thank Donors Choose for giving us the opportunity to request them.

My project is very important because the activities my students will get to do will help motivate them and learn science in a fun and exciting way.

It will be easier to understand the challenging concepts of velocity and acceleration for instance. All students will have a display board to display their science fair project and I will not waste time rewinding the tapes by hand when I want to play a VHS tape.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
