Consumable Copies of Literature For Annotation

My students need practice annotating books that they are reading. A class set (40) of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" would serve this purpose ideally.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We read a great deal of literature in my classes, but generally students are not able to practice the annotation skills that will be helpful during their university years. This class set would enable them to practice this skill under my supervision.

I teach an Honors 11th grade American Literature class in an urban public high school.

My students vary greatly in terms of skills. Many are very accomplished and are quite likely to attend four year universities upon graduation, but a good many others are struggling. Still, with some effort and practice could also work their ways into university programs.

My Project

With this class set of Twain's novel, my students will be able to practice annotating the text as they do their nightly reading assignments. I certainly remember my own university years, and it's obvious to me that this is a skill that assists comprehension but is rarely taught directly by teachers in public school, simply because classroom sets are expensive and cannot be treated as consumable resources. I really do believe that this would be beneficial, especially for my struggling students.

Annotation is a skill that any university students needs, but it is also one that I have not been able to teach to my satisfaction.

Many of you will, I'm sure, remember your own university years, and how helpful this skill is in taking in and synthesizing new information. I hope you will see the logic of this request.
