Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Give them the tools and they will work miracles. I see it everyday. My students have the brain, the strategies, the enthusiasm, and the heart to learn. That is why they deserve to have enough tables in the classroom to provide them with a sense of comfort and normalcy in the classroom.

My students attend school in a low performing and high poverty areas in the center of the city.

Most of the families are working families with little or no English skills to help their child succeed. School is the best and most comfortable setting for our students to learn. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts and class size increase, all of our classrooms are short desks for our writing and other centers. Our school consists of pre-schoolers and kindergarteners; which means our students are depending on us to help them lay a solid foundation for the rest of their lives. Therefore, we as teachers, have a responsibility to make sure we are providing all that we can whenever possible to make learning fun in a safe and comfortable environment.

My Project

We need two tables as our writing center. My students are currently sitting in one corner of the classroom on the carpet and using a clipboard to write on as their writing center. All of the materials are in bins on the carpet since we have no extra tables to spare in the whole school. My students simply need two tables to sit comfortably to to write. They also need two caddies to hold their writing tools and an organizer to house their paper essentials within their reach on the table.

My students deserve to rest their little elbows on a table while they are jotting their fascinating ideas down.

How can you do your best thinking and writing if you are sitting or lying uncomfortably on the carpet? Give my students a safe and comfortable area to foster the future author in each and everyone of them.
