Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Don't laugh at me. Don't call me names. Don't get your pleasure from my pain." Don't you wish that these lyrics would stop bullying? They can help but we need other techniques to help our students put an end to bullying. My students need some intervention to help convey this message.

Our school is a full Magnet school which means that my students come from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Although they are a diverse bunch of students, they all have that intrinsic desire to do well in school. About half of them are gifted and the other half range from average to low. They are bright, inquisitive, and motivated but they still need help on trying to prevent bullying and to communicate their feelings.

My Project

As I try to prepare my students for educational purposes, I also need to help prepare them for social situations. With the anti-bullying kit, my fourth graders will learn to respond to bullying situations. This kit will help me to empower them to handle these situations when they encounter bullying. In addition, often students are unable to effectively communicate their emotions, the art books, poetry books, and the various art supplies will help them learn to express their feeling through art projects and poetry writing.

By giving my students the tools they need to be able to identify bullying and address those types of situations, my students will become better citizens.

They will also become proactive when they see bullying and try to prevent someone from being harmed. The art and poetry will allow students to vent their frustrations in a positive way.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
