My Students

We're straining our ears to hear music from our tiny computer speakers. The only alternative is the speaker system attached to our aging boom box. Music should be heard with a full sound to keep students engaged in the experience.

Our California school is deemed one of "moderate poverty" but budget cuts prevent purchase of many of the materials that enrich the school day.

We are a relatively small school with a population of 500 that encompasses a wide range of cultures and ethnicities, with over 13 home languages spoken. It's a diverse school with a wonderful, caring staff and a supportive parent community.

My Project

Music is easily accessible from the Internet, but playing that music in our classroom setting has been a struggle without an adequate speaker system. We have had rehearsals for performances and have had to listen to music over our tiny computer speakers, where students are straining to hear. We have a boom box that has been repaired more than once. I want my students to experience music in the way in which it should be heard; with full, rich sound. Our integrated social studies/music program will provide educational experiences with jazz. They need the means to become engrossed in the sound.

This speaker system will allow me to bring music easily to the students with a fuller, more accessible sound that will greatly enhance their enjoyment.
