Mark It With A Tablet!

My students need a tablet to connect to the internet, use computer applications to visualize math and to create math.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What if your own child had no access to technology? A tablet will make it possible for my title 1 students to create a lifetime of experiences! It's like my own "Hole in the Wall" experiment.

Our students come from low socio-economic households, and English-learner households.

We have a high Hispanic and African-American population. We are a title 1 school faced with the new challenge of program improvement year 3, due to not meeting our criteria in certain areas. We are limited to teaching language arts and math, but are able to squeeze in art or music in the afternoons one day a week and we usually don't have time to do fun hands-on activities. I have a few GATE students that would benefit greatly from the learning experience, and challenge them to learn and use new technology skills they will need to succeed in the future. Now, students that learn by visual or hands-on modes will be inspired to ask for their own tablets instead of video games.

My Project

With a tablet, students will be able to learn hands-on, the technology that is ever-sprouting around them and then sometimes surpassing them. They come from homes that do not have computer technology and only have a chance to experience it here. We are so far behind in academics, our funding goes to outside consultants. Our computer technician had his hours cut in half, therefore our computers are dropping like flies. Tutorials: We will be using web based tutorials to help students who need remedial math (help with basic facts and such.)The program allows them to log in and allows me to track their progress and time spent on mastery of objectives! Using tablets will help us 1. Save paper and money on textbooks. 2. Save money on hands on manipulatives (we will use software instead!) 3. Give poor students access to technology! 4. Give accelerated learners the chance to explore technology.

Our expensive outside consultants have us working on a web-based tutorial that shows videos and then allows students to practice the concept.

Having a tablet at their desk would help them access the suggested intervention tool. Our school was able to afford a few, but they are using these in our middle schools and would like to have more of them have some access to the technological advances around them.
