Leap Into Learning!

My students need 5 Leapfrog Leapster Explorer Learning Systems (technological hand-held tools) & software that engage all learners through sight, sound, and motion.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you recall playing engaging games on a computer or hand-held tool? Well, my first graders have not yet had the benefit of such an experience. Tools such as multi-sensory Leapster Explorers would allow my students to simultaneously learn and have fun. With Leapsters, every student leaps to learn!

I teach a fantastic group of energetic 1st graders at an inner-city school.

More than 70% of my students come from economically challenged families. For the majority of my students, their financial difficulties don't allow them to have the same access to technology as the average students do. This means that technology tools (such as Leapsters) are essential learning tools that can bridge the gap between more privileged communities and MY students.

My Project

Leapster Multi-Media Learning Systems are technological hand-held tools that offer engaging, multisensory, standards-based games to students. I plan to utilize Leapsters in my 1st grade classroom during centers. In order to support the home-school connection, we will also lend the Leapsters to our students and their families. This will help students and their parents to learn together using fun, interactive games. Students will interact with numbers, letters, and vocabulary through sight, sound, and physical touch. This will allow students to reinforce skills taught in math and language arts because Leapsters are designed to provide immediate feedback to the learner through auditory reinforcement. What a fun way to learn!

When my students are awarded this grant I will implement Leapster Learning Systems immediately, benefiting many at-risk students and their families.

I will use them to reinforce skills taught in the classroom and we will send them home for additional learning time. With countless opportunities for learning, Leapsters will enhance students' conceptual understanding of math, language arts, and science concepts through engaging games.
