This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!" What a wonderful quote from "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut" by Dr. Seuss. Due to budget/staff cuts, our library has been closed and my students haven't had the opportunity to check out books.

I have 29 fabulous fourth grade students who are eager to learn and read at school and at home.

We are a Title 1 school and the majority come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Over 90% of my students are Second Language Learners. My students are hard-working and excited about learning.

My Project

I am requesting classroom library books that have been selected by my wonderful fourth grade students. These chapter books will serve two purposes. The books are at my students' independent reading levels and will be used for independent silent reading in class. I will also create a check out system so that the students will be able to read at home. Students will be able to use these books for our monthly reading logs. They will be exposed to new authors and a variety of genres. They will be able to use all the reading skills and strategies taught in class on their own. I cannot wait to ignite the fire of reading books for pleasure!

Because our school library is closed, students do not have access to books.

Reading is so important and my students are very excited to begin reading the books they selected. My students will have the opportunity to share their experiences with the book with the other students in order to get the students interested in new books!
