I am a fourth grade teacher at Goodwin Elementary. Our school is a Title I school with ninety-three percent poverty located in North Charleston, SC. I have a wonderful group of students this year! I try very hard to get them excited about science and social studies. I thought a great way to do this would be through fiction. Although many of my students struggle with reading, they love to read and do so all of the time! In our room, we read novels during English Language Arts time. We would love to have book sets that help with reading skills as well as make science and social studies interesting. Due to the economic realities of the community where I teach, many of my students are not exposed to literature at home. I think it is so important for each student to have their own book. It is one thing to hear about history but to hold it in your hands makes it come alive! I am asking for 20 copies of the following books: (1)The Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo by Jean Craighead (2) George Washington's Socks By Elvira Woodruff (3) Lewis and Clark ... and Jodie, Freddie, and Samantha by Jon Scieszka I would like to thank you for taking the time to consider my proposal.
