Technological Hardware For An Evolving Classroom

My students need a computer that can handle complex computer modeling and new smartboard minimum requirements.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Facebook, smartphones, and smartboards oh my! Technology is everywhere including the classroom. Unfortunately some technology is not backwards compatible, meaning once you upgrade one thing you need to upgrade the rest. Newly added technology has demanded a more powerful computer.

My students attend a inner city school in CA.

They are bombarded with choices to make everyday, ditch or go to class, go home or join a gang, take your school book and get jumped or fail a class and be safe. For some my students, school is the only place that is stable in their lives. Many come from broken homes, foster homes, no home, parents or family members who have been killed. Without the support of their teachers and friends from school many students would completely lost. Many of these students have huge hearts, it's just a matter of digging out the diamond.

My Project

This resource is fundamental in the classroom as the world is changing towards technology. Currently the school just upgraded to smartboards, however the computers cannot handle even the simplest of tasks when hooked up to them. As a chemistry teacher, I will be using the computer to display video, demonstrations that I cannot perform in the classroom, and visual representations of topics/ideas that cannot be seen, such as the atom. Furthermore, the computer will be able to support the smartboard, allowing students to write on the board, with me taking control or highlighting points remotely as the students present, and even saving what they wrote for future discussions, or an online archive for reference.

No student wants to read and do problems from a book.

Class needs to be fun and interesting. Computer technology and multimedia allows the class to travel down this avenue. Demonstrations, 3d modeling, virtual labs, and skyping with labs from universities are just a few of the ways that this technology can be used to impact and help enrich my students' lives and learning processes.
