My Students

8th graders think BIG - bigger than note cards, bigger than notebooks, bigger than legal size! They want to be able to convey their thoughts onto big chart paper for all to see and remember. However, our school can barely afford regular paper and pencils.

My 8th grade students are the most diverse group in our California city, representing all neighborhoods and well as cultures and countries throughout the world.

We have students who are new to English and some who know several languages, some who are very outspoken, and many who don't like to say, but would rather, draw or write their thoughts. They want to be able to show me and their classmates what they're thinking about in a large, visual display that can be kept from class to class and day to day.

My Project

We're requesting easel pads and markers so that students can record main ideas in group discussions, make lists, and draw mind maps to share with the whole class. The students feel inspired to make their ideas even better when they know they're going to be displayed for the whole class.

These easel pads and markers will make a huge difference in how my students process the science concepts that I teach them.

They will love thinking about, writing about, and drawing about science and they will remember much more for much longer! These students will be the next generation of scientists, artists, and change-makers!
