Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Computers with access to online resources equal increased student learning and achievement.

My fourth graders participate in a weekly pull-out Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program.

Each day of the week, I teach a different group of students from throughout our district's 18 elementary schools. Students come from a range of backgrounds including low-income households and limited English speaking families. Many students receive free or reduced lunch. We offer an enrichment curriculum that is specially designed for students who require advanced study above and beyond the regular core curriculum. Topics of study include marine science, geology, and paleontology. Field trips to science centers and natural history museums further enhance and extend the program.

My Project

My students need 2 more Netbooks to give them access to online resources. More online access in the classroom will allow my students to research topics for independent and group projects. They will take "virtual reality" underwater voyages with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration websites, visit La Brea Tar Pits to view fossils of prehistoric animals, and navigate various websites to learn more about our local petroleum industry.

Some of my students do not have Internet access at home.

These Netbooks will encourage them to explore the global community and look at the world in new and different ways. Great schools don't exist in isolation. It is a true partnership among all stakeholders, including families, teachers, businesses, and community members that creates successful learners.
